MARRY ME?

Yup, it's true.  I got engaged.  Since my bride-to-be is a whip smart Scrabble whiz who plays words like "ZA" and "XU" for like eighty-five effing points, I thought I'd butter her up at the start of this game.  As I dropped to a knee and produced the ring, Amber managed an incredulous, "Are you asking me to marry you?"  I nodded.  And then she said, and I quote because you don't forget these sorts of things, "Okay."

"Okay?" I said.  "Okaaaaay?!?"

My little pixie looked so frickin' thrilled that I struggled to reconcile her tepid response, but as soon as she snapped to and realized that "okay" wasn't going to cut it, she melted into my arms and said the six words I desperately wanted to hear, "Yes, of course I'll marry you!"  And then we cried and hugged and now we're engaged.  (This is, by the way, the second time I've been engaged, though the first time was rather short lived... largely due to the fact that I was twenty and grinding my jaw at a rave when I proposed, without a ring or so much as a Lifesaver to stand in as a ring.  You could say this time it feels just a wee bit more real :)

Party in the U-S-A

Maybe it's because I listened to the song ad nauseam while writing the concept for this music video, or maybe it's because it really is an awesome song, but I'm shamelessly hooked on Miley Cyrus' "Party in the U-S-A." And judging by the music video's astounding 83 million hits on YouTube, I know I'm not the only one. The song is (to use industry parlance) infectious. In fact, I even wrote that in the music video treatment. Something like: With a keen eye for composition, we'll create a stylish visual world for this infectious track. (Of course, I write that or something like that in almost all of my treatments - even the Enrique Iglesias ones - but I really really mean it this time.) Director Chris Applebaum drilled another one out of the park, and for the six of you who haven't seen it, here it is. And here's a story about said video from MTV.com.

(The photo, by the way, was taken on set in Los Angeles.)
