My (Disqualified) Pitch for a "Really Goode Job"

Murphy-Goode winery grabbed headlines with their national search for a "Wine Country Lifestyle Correspondent" to help catapult them into the new age of communications. They sought a Web 2.0 savvy social media whiz to tell the world about their wines and the lifestyle and culture here in Sonoma County. Sounds pretty good, huh? Sounds even better when you factor in the six-month contract that pays an eye-popping $60,000. Plus accommodations. For drinking and blogging and blogging about drinking. Needless to say, thousands of folks across the country submitted 60-second video testimonials in their bid, but given my unique skill set and experience working in this exact capacity for maverick winery Roshambo, I thought my visual portfolio would immediately grab their attention. I was right. But for the wrong reasons...

Unfortunately, the Murphy-Goode screening team flagged me for "copyright infringement." Apparently, in my own personal video resume, I'm not allowed to use images from any of the high profile projects that I've worked on. As if I were planning on selling pirated copies of my pitch on the streets of Shanghai, or something. Okay, honest mistake, I say. I'll fix it ASAP and submit a "clean" version. But it was too late.  By the time I had even fished their disqualification letter out of my Junk Mail, the application process had closed. No exceptions.

Yet another career near-miss that leaves me spinning with those sorts of "what if" thoughts. Ah, the life of scottkeneally.com. To be me is to curiously, if not pathetically, cling to a pendulum that ricochets between blind optimism and foreseeable failure, and to somehow stick along for the ride. Awesome.

Here's a new cut of a commercial I wrote and directed for Roshambo Winery.  Mind you, I had no budget for this project outside of the free beer and pizza with which I bribed the bikers.

This sucks. I just finished a Master's in Pharmacology and have been looking for all types of different work in the pharma industry and have come up with nothing, the most recent a Temporary Associate Scientist position with a contract pharma company (so not a "real" pharma company) just flat-out not getting back to me after I interviewed there recently. This job market is very, very frustrating. Things will change for you though once you have that additional degree from Oaksterdam University. :)
